The Sohma Clan

Icons:
Nicknames: Momiji-san, Momiji-kun, Momicchi
Height: 155.8 cm
Weight: 47.5 kg
Bloodtype: O
Zodiac Sign: Pisces
Schooling: Prefectural School - Grade 10
Description:

When I close my eyes and think about the traveller
Being tricked and having only his head left, yet crying while saying "thank you"
I thought about the traveller
And I felt
My heart go out to him...

He's half-Japanese - his mother is German and his father Japanese.

Half-Japanese and half German. His outer appearance looks as though he were in Elementary school, but in truth he's one year younger than Tohru. Tohru didn't realise this for almost half a year, and almost went into a panic when she found out.

Momiji entered the same high school as Tohru but wears the girls uniform! (Except he wears shorts rather than the skirt.) The reason being "this one suits me more".

Very much "my pace," his manner of speech is somewhat childish, but emotionally he is quite mature. Even though his mother rejected him, rather than resenting her for it, he accepts what happened. Likewise, even though he can't openly call himself her elder brother, he loves his younger sister Momo very much.

For me
I want to go through life and bear the burdens of my memories
Even if they are very sad memories
Even if they are memories that only cause me pain
Even if they are memories that I may wish to be able to forget
If I don't run away and hang in and fight
If I hang in there and fight, one day......
One day, I believe I'll be able
To no longer be beaten by those memories.

Only to watch over them...
Momiji's mother rejected him. Mothers of those possessed by the spirits of the 12shi either reject their children or are overly protective. And so she rejected him and threw away her memories of ever having given birth to him. The mother who threw him away. Even so, he still cares for her very much and so, in order to continue watching over her from a distance, Momiji continues to drop by his father's building.

Me... I never had that done to me in class, so I can only try to imagine what it's like but
I tried to imagine that
Every time I tried to say something
If people started to snicker
How it would make me feel
It's... it's such a very...
Sad feeling...

I want to see their happy faces...
Thinking about Kisa who has been badly teased at school, Momiji can only imagine what it would be like to be in her shoes. He feels his breath catch from sadness, and everything before him go dark. And so Kisa's pain becomes Momiji's pain. Momiji's very sensitive to other people's pain. Even though other's may consider someone stupid, to him, they are not. He only wants to make them truly happy. Because that then becomes his happiness.

From vol. 15:
He likes to eat chocolate.

Coming from a family of four (Mother, Father, Momiji and Momo), he currently lives alone. He has a number of servants helping him. His father lives "outside" but occasionally comes to visit. Momiji and Hatori live in the same neighborhood. In the past, since the incident with Momiji's mother, Momiji and Hatori became much closer; sympathetic towards each other's feelings.

Unlike the other 12shi, Momiji went to an international school for elementary and junior high. Among the 12shi, he's come to terms the most with his animal. Regardless of how touchy feely he gets with Tohru, he never gets in trouble and is in that sense is unbeatable. In chapter 72, I'd (Takaya sensei) once said to my editor that if he really were to practise a melody, it would've been nice to say "For Fruits Basket."
