AsianZodiac (Junninshi) Stuff!

Years of the Asian Zodiac

Ever wonder about what it means to be born in the year of the Rat, or the Year of the Dog? Just want to know what year you were born in? I put together a page to help you find out! ^_^

Western culture has a rich tradition that says the star sign, or Zodiac, you are born under dictate what your personality and nature are like. In Eastern culture believes that rather than the month, the year you are born in dictates your personality. Each year is represented by one of twelve different animals.

The Fruits Basket manga takes for granted that you know about the Chinese Zodiac, so it doesn't explain much about it. To people who aren't familiar with the culture I thought they might like a quick run-down of what the different years represent. You can click on the animal to jump down to see what years they influence and what it means to be born in that year.

Asian Zodiac Tales

I noticed there was some interest in the fables and stories surrounding the Asian Zodiac. Besides the famous banquet (or the alternate race story) there are lots of other short stories surrounding the various members of the Zodiac. They're used to show off their special skills and talents (or foibles and weaknesses). In a way they are very similar to Aesop's Fables and are meant to teach a lesson or a moral.

I've always been really fascinated by myths and stories from around the world and have picked up quite a few of these. Since people seemed interested I've decided to share and tell a few (mostly from memory, but I could look and see what books I have on the subject too if anyone is interested). If you know a story that I don't have here, or want to hear a story about your favorite Junninshi (Zodiac member) just drop me a line at merrow@randomfandom.com.
